Love the idea, I always thought of doing the same with my skull since I worked with MRI files and could probably export the file. However I never did an MRI of my head.

How did you assemble the STL? Freesurfer?

I had some MRIs done about a year ago that included the brain and I got so/so results out of Freesurfer. You could tell it was a brain but it still looked a little janky. Yours looks great, though!

Thanks! I used InVesalius for creating the STL of my entire head, and I used Autodesk Meshmixer to isolate my brain from all the other pieces of my head. There are better ways to do it though, I think.

    Oh dude that’s awesome!
I work with MRI files all the time, I can’t believe I never thought this was something you could do with them.
This whole time for educational activities we have been carrying around the real things preserved inside a glass like maniacs, instead of, you know, a pretty 3d model that does not get kids asking us deep or gory questions about death.

You should print one in TPU so it’s soft, then put it in a glass container with a safe to handle liquid so it looks like a real brain preserved in formaldehyde. Then you can reach in and pull out the brain and ask who wants to hold it.
