By signing his latest fascist legislation which criminalizes undocumented immigrants for…well… just being in Florida, De Santis has effectively chased out virtually the entire undocumented poplulation of the state, which means more than 80% of the construction workers, and nearly 100% of the agricultural workers. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. It cascades from there. I just spent half an hour on tiktok, for an old timer like me that’s a bit of a challenge, but it was worth it. In that short amount of time, I saw latin truckers blocking entire highways with their boycotting and refusing to deliver loads in Florida, or to take loads out. They aren’t even undocumented, that’s just the solidarity folks.
Our immigration policy is such an embarrassment. Ignoring the obvious moral side of things, because that doesn’t play with a lot of people, it’s just necessary for the economy. We have a huge demand for these laborers and we simply don’t have a domestic work force to meet that demand. We’re crippling ourselves.
Will y’all still be laughing when he signs legislation sending prisoners to do essential labor? When he starts buying more prisoners from other states when the Florida prison population runs low? Or when he starts rounding more people up to be new prison labor?
That’s how fascists work: they double down.
As a german i’ll laugh, because the people voted for him, instead learning history books, to avoid mistakes made by others.

Plenty of people use that shit to justify letting the poor suffer and die because we deserve it for not voting out our oppressors. We deserve the government we get because we didn’t vote harder. Fuck that.
