Two anti-junta fighters in their 20s were executed in public in a village in Magwe Region and a video of the crime, which occurred about three months ago, was uploaded to social media on Tuesday and is circulating there.

They were burned alive after being hanged from a tree.

The video, first reported on by two local media outlets – and likely leaked to them – is narrated by a triumphant voice.

Resistance group Yaw Defense Force (YDF) said junta soldiers and allied Pyu Saw Htee militia members were responsible for the crime in Gangaw Township’s Myauk Khin Yan village.

It’s a stupid idea to execute resistance fighters like this because the actual execution will sprout more resistance. And burning to death? Oof, that’s not charming hearts and minds, no.

Juntas aren’t well known for their PR. They just want to inflict as much violence as possible because that’s the only way a military mind can think of achieving its goals.

I mean, you are right (or tag) but clicking on an article with that heading is a bit of a give away.

Most reputable news outlet will do a content warning if the article contain such image, or even blur the image by default, or not show the image altogether, it’s understandable people take that as a standard.

We are living in a funny world, where nudity must be tagged and generally hidden, but there is wide acceptance to show violence.

People are being hung and burned to death, and you’re commenting about seeing some mild photos of it? We need to get over it and commit to becoming more intimately familiar with how a large portion of the world works, because avoiding violence seems to be a privilege and a luxury, the more I see of the world. The least we can do is witness it, because I think violent revolution and violent oppression is closer to any of us than we want to admit.

OP was complaining about how they had to see it WITHOUT consent. Your point about being willing to stomach photos of atrocities is moot if you don’t give the viewer the choice of seeing them.
