            In theory, but not in practice: they’re called tankies because they’re ideologically identical to the conservative communists who cheered when the USSR sent tanks to suppress the revolutions of more progressive communists.

            sort of a no true scottsman error going on here. i don’t think it’s necessarily beneficial to anyone to gatekeep terms like this, just makes the language used to describe each other a mess to deal with.

            as i told the other commenter. no true scottsman. you’re just muddying the waters by making established language useless.

            you’re not even necessarily wrong about the conflict in ideology but that does not change the fact that the pejorative term originally referred to a subset of members within a communist party, full stop.

            if it makes you feel better, mentally put the title of the left hand circle in quotes.
