The current goal of the right is the erosion of state power to cede control to a corpo-feudal model. It would be playing into their hands.

What they need to do is enforce the fucking rules. Literally just letting Reich wankers get away with anything because they’re scared of retaliation or don’t want to set a precedent of enforcing the law on the political class.

Edit: Ok so Jamal Bowman (D-NY) might have read your post.

When they don’t play by the rules, they make it a game where nobody else should play by the rules.
“MAGA is not a government of, by, and for We the People: instead, it is a government of, by, and for the most wealthy individuals and powerful corporate interests in the nation, seizing power by pitting the people against each other, inflaming political, racial, and religious conflict for political gain.” - https://hartmannreport.com/p/can-biden-take-on-trump-and-the-maga-310

The main reason why is because the democratic base want their representatives to have the moral high ground, even if it means losing major bills in Congress. It’s deeply frustrating because many of these people would rather Democrats “meet in the middle” and “negotiate”. What has made the right, and to a larger extent the alt-right, so powerful is that they know this about Democrats.

So Republicans can say with a straight face “I’ll put in just the tip” and then when push comes to shove, go in balls-deep and say, “mEeT Us iN ThE MiDdLe!”

Republicans have a base that doesn’t care about decorum. Democrats do.

If we could just pass some form of term limits, we should see less of this.

They omitted language blocking an automatic cost of living increase which was present in the Senate bill. This is explained in the article.

Uhhh… is that how that works? I would imagine you cant do a bait and switch where you pass one bill and propose another when it gets to the senate.

The bill already passed through the house.

The Senate produced their own bill, which McCarthy did not bring to the floor for a vote. This bill from the house now goes to the Senate to die.

The senate had been working towards voting on (because a group of republican senators were delaying it) a bill that was almost identical to what just passed the house.

What The Legislative Branch Appropriations Act, 13 2023 (division I of Public Law 117–328) actually says:

SEC. 6. ADJUSTMENTS TO COMPENSATION. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, no adjustment shall be made under section 601(a) of the Legislative Reorganization Act of 1946 (2 U.S.C. 4501) (relating to cost of living adjustments for Members of Congress) during fiscal year 2023.

As far as I can tell, they didn’t sneak anything in.

A cost of living increase automatically happens unless there is language to block it. The House GOP’s version removed that language.

This issue was quickly raised by Democratic Rep. Rosa DeLauro, ranking member of the House Appropriations Democrats. In a text to House GOP lawmakers, Republican House Majority Whip Tom Emmer denied the accusation, writing, “That is NOT TRUE.” He did not comment about the actual text of the bill, which says otherwise.

Interesting. How does that change the fact that republican assholes snuck pay raise for themselves while they shut down the government?

      Go and shill somewhere else.

No one was wondering. Did that somehow make the fact that they tried to get a cola raise that was previously and deliberately blocked before not true? Does it make it not true that the Republicans tried to VERY quickly force a vote on the bill, even though they had said all new bills would get 72 hours to review first?

Who the fuck cares where the article is coming from? It didn’t lie and it’s easily verifiable information.

You are concerned about pay raises, which are automatic unless they vote to decline and they haven’t taken in over 10 years, while they dont do shit about wage stagnation, the unhoused, Ukriane money laundering, etc. If fucking liberals actually got outraged about things that mattered AND held their party accountable we might actually get stuff accomplished.

Gee, that’s funny. One of those two entities uses credible sources and facts to inform its audience and the other one spews lies, bigotry, and hate every time the shitbag opens his mouth to keep his viewers raging about made-up bullshit. They sure are the same…
