If everyone applies that mentality it will almost always lead to the tyranny of the majority.
To my understanding, that’s what we call democracy.
What will cause a group that has even a slim majority to understand and take into account the needs of the minority.
The needs of a minority are always taken care of to an extend, that the minority does not annoy the majority. To minimise conflict if you will. And minimising conflict is always in the interest of the minority because it ensures the status quo to the maximum extend possible.
An example would be public healthcare.
In case of the ultra small minority of homosexuals, there is almost no interest of making them happy in exchange of making the majority (still christians) unhappy.
