“He’s told us what he will do. It’s very easy to see the steps that he will take. People who say, ‘Well, if he’s elected, it’s not that dangerous because we have all of these checks and balances,’ don’t fully understand the extent to which the Republicans in Congress today have been co-opted. One of the things that we see happening today is a sort of a sleepwalking into dictatorship in the United States. If you look at what Donald Trump is trying to do, he can’t do it by himself. He has to have collaborators. And the story of Mike Johnson is a story of, of a collaborator and of someone who knew then – and knows now – that what he’s doing and saying is wrong, but he’s willing to do it in an effort to please Donald Trump. And that’s what makes it dangerous.” – Former Rep. Liz Cheney, speaking to CBS News.

My dad is deeply troubled about where our party is, deeply troubled about where the country is,” Cheney, R-Wyo., said at an event held by the Aspen Institute, adding that her father, who served with former President George W. Bush, is a “tremendous source of advice and guidance and wisdom.”

    She’s part of the problem.

Yeah sure. You are probably right. But also not the main part of the problem? I mean, I’m not trying to paint her as a savior or a saint, but she’s also not actively trying to dismantle the system, right? There’s a lot of that going around, from way too many of her colleagues, as far as I can tell. Idk, it just seemed like a nice thing, for someone to call out many of these horrid tendencies we’ve been seeing lately, and as far as hypocrites go, you can find way worse than Liz Cheney.

I agree with that. I respect that she had a spine when the rest of her party did not and she was willing to pay for that principled stand. I still have an issue with her selective blindness towards her father’s actions as VP but it’s at least an understandable human characteristic for many to put their parents up on a pedestal.

I just want to tell you that this rotten meatbag was the one who advocated for balkanisation of Russia, partly responsible for what led to the CIA coup attempts in 2003 (Orange, failed) and 2013 (Maidan, success), and whatever followed through with the sudden annihilation of Western SWIFT economy and display of spectacular failure of NATO’s military capabilities in Ukraine.

The system is broken and the Bush Family is a big reason why it is. This is part of some bullshit to get liberals like you to accept the GoP as “moderate” when in actuality there is no difference between Bush and Co and Trump. Trump was just loud about it and the reason Cheney doesn’t like him. If you actually compare Bush and Trump I think trump comes out ahead as far as atrocities and fascism go.

        Don’t fall for it.

Don’t assume so much about me please. This other guy sent me a link about how cheney wanted to balkanize China and Russia, and maybe that’s not the worst idea. But it got me thinking. Why stop there? Balkanize the US too why not. They are, all three, too big and ducked up anyway. Also, an outsiders perspective, remember? I don’t really have a dog in this fight. Ofc the world will suffer bigly, if Trump, and the fascists backing him, gets their will. But we all know this. So why not at least try to focus on a glimmer of compassion once in a while?

Somebody can be a “tremendous source of advice and guidance and wisdom” and yet make poor decisions. You’re framing people as if they’re “good or bad” with a neat little ribbon tied on the box. People are a constantly fluctuating mix of good and bad things at all times, and depending on your perspective in this moment, you’ll experience one or the other. I’ve seen wisdom in the otherwise dense, and I’ve seen ignorance in the otherwise sharp. I’ve seen wickedness in the otherwise gentle, and I’ve seen compassion in the otherwise cold. Really just depends when you happen to look and if you allow yourself to see it

I agree people are a good mix of good and bad but I have trouble seeing much of any good in war profiteer Dick Cheney. He’s down there with Kissinger in my mind.
