I’ve literally heard people defend their casual use of words like f*g, r*tard, and autistic as “it’s just part of the culture, they’re not actually trying to be offensive!”
First of all, 100% of 4chan users would disagree with that and very proudly assert that they are in fact trying to be offensive. Second of all, even if they weren’t, being part of a culture doesn’t justify anything by itself. Pop culture, which is what 4chan’s “culture” is, can be and routinely are highly toxic and offensive.
