Hey Memmy devs and app users,

I asked you folks about whether you were considering charging a fee or subscription for app users the other day (a lo Apollo) the other day and thanks for your answer. Respect your vibe.

Anyhow, I would also like to contribute to the instance I have my profile on and thought it would be great if there were a way of enabling it within Memmy (or under its future name), for ease of function, “basically”. Maybe this is too much of an ask. Maybe Apple fees get in the way. I have no idea tbh.

What do y’all think? Would love to know

    I don’t think we can do anything about that. The best we could do is if an instance has a donation link on their about page, we display that.

      I’ve been trying to read up on the terms for in-app donations to developers for iOS but everything seems to be rather old. Anyway, just curious if a donation link runs a fowl of the terms of service or if you have to use in-app purchases and have Apple take their cut?

        Again to be clear, we are not specifically putting any donation links anywhere. If we add an instance about screen, and they happen to have a donation link in the description of the instance, then it would display on Memmy in the instance about screen. And i don’t see how that could be a problem with Apple, that would basically be the same as on Reddit someone posting a link to a buy me a coffee page or something.
