The government agency announced that it’s going launch a new streaming service later this year called NASA+.

Wtf would nasa waste money on something that have never made a profit. Budget already fucked up enough. Its be more worthwhile to invest in shows from the streaming services.

Protip: it’s better to respond to the article rather than what you think the headline means.

Protip. I was responding to the article. I still think its a waste of money for nasa. A lot of people do not give a fuck about space. It’s why NASA’s budget has languished for so long. And now they’re investing in something that’s people specifically have to give a fuck about NASA themselves to interact with and most likely will just be an unnecessary budget drain. In a climate thats already saturated with “streaming services” Why even create a “streaming service” if the intention seems to be just “NASA news”. It would in my opinion still be better to partner with one of these larger streaming services in order to push NASA to more people.

Huh, that’s actually a reasonable point of view - none of which could’ve been extrapolated from your original comment. Thanks for clarifying.

Are you seriously upset that they are allowing people to watch for free rather than putting it on Netflix? That makes no sense lol. Anyone interested just has to go to a website. Remember when the internet wasn’t completely corporate controlled and the best way to share content was on your own site? NASA isn’t going to get defunded because people can’t see it on Disney+.

NASA is a critical part of the US government it’s not going to get defunded ever. Even the most hard conservatives who want to kill a ton of government agencies see the value of NASA and don’t touch it.

Fun fact, NASA budgets tends to go up under republican presidencies, and go down under democratic presidencies.

I have to agree, teaming up with even PBS at the very least would’ve made far more sense than completely starting up a new service from scratch. NASA doesn’t have a lot of news day to day, or even week to week, that common folk are going to get excited about (emphasis on common, I’m sure they have a plethora of exciting stuff for hard enthusiasts/astrophysicists/astronomers/etc).
