“The service team reply misunderstood the situation. Unlock tool is unavailable at this moment but we are allowing the possibility to unlock, please stay tuned.”

ASUS killed off bootloader unlocking back in May and has yet to fix that. If you try right now, you cannot unlock your ASUS phone. They may fix that in the future and are saying that’s the case but as of right now, you can’t.
Claiming that they want to allow it is pretty worthless if it has been killed off for months with no fix (and no fix in sight)…
Doesn’t exactly reflect well on Asus’ customer service but good to get confirmation at least (especially as someone who just bought a ZF10!)
Part of their Zenfone marketing is keeping “legacy” features like headphone jack and small form factor, they should allow unlocking. Hopefully they’ll follow through and allow you to modify the device that you purchased.
Let’s hope it’s not like Nokia situation. Promise BL unlock and only the Nokia 8 get it officially
Hopefully they keep to their word. Could be another Nokia or Huawei situation here. I’m still upset about the Huawei one, just after I unlocked my phone it was stolen, and by the time I got a replacement the unlock service was taken down.

ASUS sell phones?
Asus ZenPhone? Have you been living under a rock these past few months lol
Years*
They are making phones probably for a decade now
The zenphones seems pretty nice actually.
A bit too pricey for me though.
Well, it seems like I’ve had a roommate under that rock for years without noticing
Hell yeah, if this is true then I might get a Zenfone 10
I’d personally wait until they actually follow through.
Same. Zenfone 9 still has no ROMs available, unfortunatley

For real? That’s very good news, last time I checked on XDA there were none. What I would absolutely love is an official Lineage port, but those usually take a lot of time

I’ll have to check out Omni, I’ve never used it!
true, but Mishaal is reliable I’d say. I can always get a motorola though. Otherwise, welp, I’d get an iPhone because I regret my Xiaomi
I’m thinking more in the sense of ASUS following through with commitment rather than doubting Mishaal :).
Yeah, this is the right approach. It’s true that ASUS dropped the ball when it comes to getting their bootloader unlock tool server back online as well as in keeping users updated on their progress. It’s also true that you should never really take what support staff says at face value, and that a response from a PR rep is always preferable over support staff.
However, there are times when even the PR reps aren’t aware of an internal policy change, or they aren’t allowed to communicate as such yet. I don’t think that’s the case here, though. The PR rep I’m in touch with is the same one who has been running the Zenfone developer program for years, so I trust them!
