Hey there,
I’m a refugee from Squabbles/Squablr.co.
I didn’t care for the recent changes to the TOS nor the “free speech site” dog whistle announcement.
I really liked the lack of downvoting there, so someone suggested Beehaw.
I’ve been slow to give Lemmy a try. I read that the founder developer and current owner of Lemmy.ML is a “tankie” - a European communist extremist.
Is it possible with my Beehaw account to filter lemmy.ml out and is it something I want to do?
I’m not familiar with subject driven fediverse social media yet.
Happy weekend to all
It’s not natively supported in Lemmy yet but lots of third party apps can. If you’re on Android Sync and Connect both support it.
You’re not wrong about the tankie thing, I’d say it’s the major conflict in the “threadiverse” right now.
As you can see, I’m on lemmy.ml on this account. The moderation of the server is definitely weird. Since it is the flagship server there’s more diversity of thought than you would expect.
If you want to avoid the tankie trolling and brigading the instances you want to block are lemmygrad.ml and hexbear.net

That is GOOD to hear. I came across a post on Reddit about the founder a few months ago. I posted about it on my Mastodon account and got some crap from some guy about it, but that was about it aside from apathetic responses. I got the impression nobody cared.
Thanks for the very helpful information.
This is the nicest reception I’ve gotten on any platform since Reddit diaspora.
Fediverse people can be… territorial. I try to counteract it where I can, especially for newcomers. Welcome and you’re welcome!
I’m using a desktop web browser.
How would I block those instances?
if you have uBlock Origin set up you can adapt my filters: https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/1633853
Something along the lines of this should work for you:
beehaw.org##.person-listing[title$="@lemmygrad.ml"]:upward(:is(.post-listing, .comment)) beehaw.org##.post-listing:has(.community-link[title$="@lemmygrad.ml"]) beehaw.org##.person-listing[title$="@hexbear.net"]:upward(:is(.post-listing, .comment)) beehaw.org##.post-listing:has(.community-link[title$="@hexbear.net"])
edit: beehaw seems to have defederated both already, so you don’t need to do anything to block those two instances.
About a year or two ago I learned how to make custom Ublock filters for an old web board I use. No easy task, so I really appreciate this. Thank you!
So both of
are alternative web front ends to lemmy. The former is more desktop oriented. I don’t think Voyager supports it yet but they update at a breakneck pace.
Wow! Alexandrite.App is MUCH nicer! Thanks for the tip!
You’re welcome! The explosion of great alternative frontends is one of my favorite things
Can I use either of those with my BeeHaw account?
I joined BeeHaw because I don’t like downvoting and content ranking.
Thanks for the URLs.
Yes! They should work with any Lemmy instance (including beehaw)
It sounds like you joined the right server, beehaw is generally considered the friendliest and best moderated server on here
The reception I am getting here is the nicest I’ve gotten since I left Reddit to try other platforms. It is quickly changing my impression of Lemmy.
Thank you!
Welcome and I hope you enjoy interacting in this space!
One thing to note is that communities across the instances (lemmy.ml being an instance) will have varying content and vibe, and may differ from what you might expect of an instance. So if you’re selective with the communities you subscribe to and typically only scroll through your Subscribed front page, filtering out lemmy.ml might not be necessary.
