NEW YORK, June 11 (Reuters) - A U.S. congressional committee will accuse the biggest Wall Street firms on Tuesday, in a report seen by Reuters ahead of its publication, of colluding with advocacy groups to force companies to shrink their greenhouse gas emissions.

The report says Climate Action 100+ “bullies asset managers to join” and presses them to use their shareholder votes in support of climate proposals, seeking to reduce fossil fuel extraction and raising energy prices for U.S. consumers.

    Lobbying companies = bad.

Lobbying politicians and SCOTUS = good.

Now I get it. They’re afraid of losing some of that cash.

They… They published a report… Saying that companies are colluding… to lower greenhouse emissions?

That’s what republicans think is a valuable use of their time seated in positions of power and influence? Trying to stop companies from checks notes NOT harming all life??

Going to guess that they cite fossil fuel representatives as the source for the bullying claims.

Next the GOP will be screaming to nationalize these publicly traded companies so the public has no say in how they’re run.

Ceres said in a statement that the hearing is part of a larger political campaign to ban investors from considering climate-related financial risk.

…or maybe they’ll codify in law that the only consideration is profit.

Next the GOP will be screaming to nationalize these publicly traded companies so the public has no say in how they’re run.

For one, nationalizing would have the opposite effect. It literally means that the company is administrated by the people of the nation, and therefore they reap the profits/rewards. It also means they have more control.

Sure, an autocrat might try to use this to consolidate power, but the concept of nationalizing isn’t inherently bad. It can be done correctly, and be a great boon for society.

Which is why, second, the GOP would never do such a thing. Wrest control of private corporations from billionaire capitalists that fund their campaigns and hand it to the people? Lol are we talking about the same party?
