Rush Limbaugh had only been on the air for a little over 10 years when the Columbine shooting happened. For News started that year I think. Other news agencies also did 24 hour coverage of the various big shootings and blasted the killer’s identities everywhere, just like the media used to do for serial killers before they were blamed for causing more serial killings.

I think the media is certainly complicit but I think people need look deeper, back to when gang violence, poverty, and the ruining of the American worker began to come back. Neoliberalism has been a cancer infecting the Western nations for decades now, governing over the decline of our industries and the rapid growth of wealth inequality. You can track all the increases in gun violence and mass killings right back to it and its consequences.

And yet gun violence is growing across Europe despite few if any changes to gun law.

What about countries that do have strict gun laws and only relatively recently started having shootings? What changed between then and now across the West?

During the summer BLM protests, police were using excessive force constantly, shooting people in the head with rubber bullets/beanbags, beating people nearly to death, gassing everything… it was pure hatred from the thin blue line.

When protesters were calmly walking wearing their rifles, police were mysteriously real polite. Funny that.

You used to be able to purchase brand new military machine guns right off the wall until 1986, yet I struggle to prove that more than 3 people have died to civilian-owned machine guns. Semi-automatic rifles were widely available for decades before anything really happened. Here is the question: what changed between then and now that started the trend of mass/school shootings?

Not being diagnosed with ADHD until my 30’s, I was concerned about taking stimulants… Man did they ever highlight all the ways I had adjusted my life to try and cope, and all the self-medicating I was doing with caffeine and energy drinks. While some adjustments were still necessary, I could finally do things like:

• wash the dishes without wanting to peel my skin off
• regularly cook meals instead of eat garbage
• get my work done in a normal 8 hour day instead of taking 12 hours and stressing out all day about the time I was wasting and ultimately having no time for my chores

Considering how damn hard it is to get meds now because everyone else is abusing them, I’m off them more often than I’m on them. Back to negative performance reviews, stressful days, viciously hating what should be boring or mildly annoying tasks for anyone else. Only difference now is I don’t hate myself because I finally understand what parts of this are and are not my fault. I mean that helps me live with myself but I’d really rather just have meds again.

All countries should be slowly reducing their population if we are to have any hope of surviving long-term.

The real path forward to fixing voting in the US is going to be a long one. People need to find or form grassroots organizations to replace as many local and state positions as possible with actual candidates. Essentially a takeover of the Democrats starting at the lowest levels and moving up from there.

Some might be demoralized by how long this will take. Others realize that this actually isn’t that hard with teams of motivated people.

On the Republican side: look at Brandon Herrera and his battle with Tony Gonzales. A youtuber nearly beat the incumbent (lost by 407 votes). The man tapped into people’s anger and very nearly got it.

Where are lefties on this? Nothing out of the unions? People want change, help them get it.

The Democrats will never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

Up against Trump the loser, they’re pitting… a once-great retirement home escapee. Come on guys in a country of several hundred million people, surely you can do better than this.

The entitlement of “it’s her turn” after everything she has done just gave it all a stink. Honestly her campaign did more damage than the Republican one (MUH EMAILS)

Well this is why I’m asking, it does seem to work for my 100% Linux friend.

Having been the guy in an org shouting not to do something only for it to come back to us this way, the finger-pointing that begins is nuts. Often the people who tried to stop the “feature” from rolling out are the first to get blamed for it being shit.

My union is doing this kind of thing right now. Start small and creep the action towards disobedience to keep people engaged and willing.

I think those craving strategy were some of the earliest adopters of gaming, especially once those games became increasing popular. It’s no surprise then that their numbers would be diluted over time, especially once you start including mobile gamers (who I think are different enough to not really warrant being compared to other gamers). As someone who played some strategy games in the 90s, it was a wild time:

• real-time games like Dune, Command & Conquer, Homeworld, Age of Empires, Myth
• turn-based stuff like Ogre Battle, Fire Emblem, X-Com, Jagged Alliance
• the ungodly amount of grid-based civil war and cold war games and the beginnings of what could be called grand strategy, such as Panzer General, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Star Wars Rebellion, Europe Universalis (2000 but not really a stretch to include imo)
• 4X games like Civilization, Alpha Centauri, Master of Orion
• stuff that doesn’t fit in anywhere else like The Guild, Majesty, Carrier Command, Battlezone… (might be misremembering release dates here)

We are still getting a lot of good strategy games even in recent years, like The Last Spell, They Are Billions, Beyond All Reason, half the stuff SplattercatGaming covers…

I imagine that there is a lot of cross-over between strategy, city-builder, logistics and sim players especially if you single out Germany lol. All those genres are “shrinking” if you are only looking at them as a percentage of total gamers, but actually they slowly grow all the time.

Clearly this study is the result of including mobile gamers in with other groups.
