  • If things would stop getting shittier, then yes. I’m not entirely sure that it applies here so I understand your annoyance, but you’re seeing “enshittification” everywhere because we’re seeing the practice of enshittification everywhere. I applaud it being called out. We shouldn’t be seeing higher prices for worse experiences, but that’s the current trend. If you’re tired of seeing the word, then it’d probably be a good idea to take a break from c/technology because I don’t think it’s stopping any time soon.

  • I would be a better husband, first of all. I’d have much more time and energy available for more than what I already do around the house plus better dates. Beyond that, I think I’d write and record a bunch of music just to share with the world, maybe try to make a few bucks off of it but not beyond “buy me a beer” type donations from people who can spare it. I really want to do a post-rock concept album before I kick the bucket, just to have a big completed project checked off. Maybe I’d write some bad poetry too until I got sorta good at it, maybe a book if I had enough to say.

I’d also play even more video games, obviously. Maybe I’d finally hit champ in Rocket League lmao.

  • Any god who is all powerful and all knowing–yet allows this to happen–is not a god worthy of anybody’s worship. If there are such beings, then our universe may be nothing more than a child’s misplaced Tamagotchi, forgotten under their bed or at the bottom of their backpack.

Is it better to have an uncaring god or no god at all?

  • It doesn’t even seem to be much work now that they aren’t pretending to have legitimate rationale behind these decisions. They have a 6-3 majority, lifetime appointments, and zero oversight beyond impeachment which will never fucking happen. They’re bulletproof assholes and they’ll push as far as they feel like so long as they don’t piss people off enough to assassinate them, and it’s almost exclusively conservatives who would go to such lengths, so yeah they’re bulletproof.

  • Maybe I’m being optimistic, but I have to assume that since an adult is in the white house right now and since we know what happened on Jan 6, there will be significantly more resources in place to protect the Capitol and other government buildings around the country this upcoming January. Plus we’ve seen that the FBI got a bunch of them and charged, convicted, and sentenced them, so there’s some precedent to act as a deterrent now. The cultists may be fucking morons, but they’re also absolute goddamn cowards, so I don’t think they’ll try to “storm” shit that is obviously properly defended, especially when they know that they’ll probably be caught and go to prison for it. At least not thousands of them like last time. Maybe like 50 total will push through, but they ain’t even getting to the steps outside this time.

  • That’s true, but the baseline should be able to afford food and housing somewhere. Currently it affords that precisely nowhere. As a result, multigenerational homes are becoming more prevalent, children are working to help support households more, and single income families are nigh extinct. My wife and I are DINKs in a 2 bedroom apartment because the cost of houses is absolutely insane here. It’s hard find even a fucking townhouse for less than $500k lol. Most single family homes are at least $700k. At this rate, we’ll see polyamory and polygamy become more accepted because it’s gonna get to a point where only working throuples can afford shit anymore.

  • I have whatever the opposite of a green thumb is. We do a fair bit of cooking but rent a pretty small apartment. We started growing our herbs. The basil isn’t doing so hot (I think some asshole bugs were eating it while it was outside so we brought it in) but the rosemary is doing great! I also have a peace lily that I nursed back to health somewhat.

If I were in the position to start a garden, I would pick some pretty easy stuff to start with. A lot of vegetables are pretty set and forget so long as you defend them from critters at the start and keep bugs away. The most important factor is to grow stuff you actually want to cook and eat. Maybe make your very own vegetable tier list and then find out the difficulty level of everything that’s in your S, A, and B tiers. Then just make a solid attempt at one or two as a practice run (or proof of concept) before investing next year in what you wish you’d had this year. If dipshits could figure it out 300 years ago, then I’m sure you could do a passable job learning it and executing it in your spare time with the power of virtually all human knowledge in your pocket.

  • I was talking with a coworker the other day and they were talking about how raising minimum wage causes inflation because businesses will raise prices to offset to rise in labor costs. I asked if he thought inflation had gotten bad in the past 5ish years in particular. He said of course. I said well federal minimum wage hasn’t risen since 2009, which was 15 years ago, so it sounds like inflation is gonna happen regardless of wages and is based on the capitalistic goal of infinite growth, so maybe we should raise minimum wage so lower income people have a shot at affording basic necessities.

He just said no, then inflation just would’ve been worse. It’s maddening.

  • I think that if he’d just kept his mouth shut and not violated the gag order so many times, there’d be a 99.9% chance of no prison time. Because he kept attempting to intimidate people and will undoubtedly commit some sort of stochastic terrorism (again) as a result of the 34 guilty verdicts, now I’m not so sure. Were I a betting man, I’d say that’s down to about 50% with the other 50% being still pretty tame, probably 1-6 months imprisonment + probation. Because home confinement would actually be something of a reward for him, I’m really hoping that he doesn’t just get house arrest where he can watch TV, tweet, and order KFC all day every day.

If the judge allows threats of violence to sway his decision, that’s literally letting the terrorists win. Do the right thing. If people act out as a result, so be it. They’ll get arrested and charged for their crimes next. My realistic expectation is an aggravated temper tantrum, not an assassination conducted with surgical precision. At worst, some gravy seals might shoot a few people, but probably just random civilians because they’re not smart enough to get to anybody specific.
