  • Smartphones are Spyware and Data harvest devices by definition, all of them. I get goosebumps every time when I see people using their cell phones to payfor banking, discount apps from supermarkets, saving sensitive data in these gadgets. Almost all cases of large data leaks of sensitive data in the past are due to this, the unconscious use of these devices. They are surveillance devices of large companies for commercial purposes.

That they now offer you as privacy feature to choose who they are going to sell your data to, is more than ironic, they piss on your face and say that it is raining and people believe it.

I think every data sharing tool can be used in malicious way and this one logically isn’t an exception. But you can’t invalid a tool because someone use it maliciouly. It’s a tool to share data iin a privacy friendly way, period.

I don’t know, a lot of haters in Lemmy. Retriver is a good tool, a good system to share sensible informations, FOSS. Maybe not so important for occidental users, but for sure for users in countries with restrictive govs.

Have you read the paper, also the references at the end? Or is that you belief more in little green mens instead of plasma phenomenons, which explains a lot of the Unidentified Flying Objects?

  • Ironically, Steam is one of the platforms with the most free games, but yes, I hate it with all my heart, since many years ago I bought the game Portal on CD, to realize that it required a Steam account to be able to play it. Furthermore, the same thing happens with the other games they provide, adding that they require downloading the client, which is loaded along with the game, unnecessarily spending resources, apart from the fact that it is slow as hell to open. With GOG more of the same, apart from the fact that it bores you with spam emails, the worst EPIC, which also requires complete personal data for registration. I miss the old days, when you went to the store, bought the game CD and in peace.
