The average new house in the city I work for is about 6 million dollars, so I live about 90-minutes away in normal traffic where I can pay $750/month in rent. I work lots of hours (start at 8, usually leave between 6 and 8 with no real break between), so I’m looking at 14-16 hours between when I leave the house in the morning and when I return home. I also think ach night classes at the University on Mondays during the fall and Spring semesters, and have 3 night meetings a month between Council and Planning and Zoning. On the weekends I drive a couple hundred miles out of town to help with my parents.
If paying triple for a meal occasionally saves me 15-20 minutes it’s often absolutely worth it for the stress relief.

But that’s the thing: most people involved in church, pagentry, etc are not. There’s issues with the institutions, but by claiming everyone involved is a pedophile you gut any actual criticism of the institutions - including their exposure to predators.

There’s this whole sideplot with family strife because one of his daughters decided to be like their dad and become an engineer, while the other one rebelled against him and wanted to pilot ships. I thought they’d eventually point out that they’re both following in his footsteps, but they never did.
They’re making that increasingly difficult. Basically, as more and more people get solar it becomes economically impossible to maintain the grid with millions of people being paid to connect to it.
The result is a higher and higher percentage of your power bill not be for “use” but for some other bullshit.
Because of the crazy power rate spikes during one of the Texas freezes, my power bill gets like a bunch added to it as a recovery fee for like the next 15 years. Then there’s the connection fee, maintenance fee, etc. My bill is like $300-400 a month before the first milliwatt is calculated, which makes solar less-viable. I’m paying a huge power bill no matter what (illegal to disconnect from the grid entirely), so payments towards a $50,000 solar setup would just make it more expensive.
I might save 20-40 bucks on my electric bill, but the extra $250 in payments for solar would kill that.

Doesn’t matter if the plastics never make it to the recycling center. Only around 5% of plastics in the US get recycled. Sometimes that’s because it’s cheaper to not recycle or because the particular plastic is non-recyclable, but most of the time it’s because it just gets thrown out with the rest of the garbage.
Sorting and separating materials en masse is by far the most difficult part of the process.
